January 17th Record High of 68 F. old rec 66 in 1973. January 18th Record High of 67 F. beat 66 in 1986. This was the 4th warmest January ever with an average of 39.6 F. The warmest ever was 42.9 in 1932. There were No temps in the teens at all this only the 2nd time that has ever happend. Also there were No Maximum temps 32 or lower. This was the Most Drastic turn around Ever from an extremely cold December to an Extremely warm January. Nothing has even come close to this. 1990 February was 3rd warmest ever with an avgerage of 39.6 F. 1990 March 12th Record High of 86 F. Broke the record for the date of 74 in 1899. Also Broke the record for the Hottest temp ever so early in the season. The earliest 85 or higher before this was on March 21st 1948. March 13th Record High of 86 F. again, beat 73 in 1898 March 14th Record High of 85 F. Beat 74 in 1967. (Note: 12.5 " fell 11th-12th 1960 but that was a 26 hour storm) This storm was a big surprise because there was no organized low pressure system, just gulf moisture moving up the jet stream from Texas. December 1990 was the 2nd wettest ever with 5.91" wettest is 6.12" in 1980. 1990 was the 2nd Warmest year Ever with annual average of 55.4 F. The winter of 1990-91 was the warmest winter in 34 years with an average temp of 36.4 F. August 3rd 100 F. Tied Record set in 1930. Clouds kept temp down. August was the 4th Hottest on record with an average of 76.6 F. The hottest ever was 1988 with a 77.5 avg. The SUMMER OF 1991 was HOTTEST IN HISTORY with an average temp of 75.9 this beats the previous Hottest summers just set in 1987 and 1988 with an average of 75.6 F. The Summer of 1991 was the 2nd Driest ever with only 5.44" of rain. The driest was 1966 with 4.48". 1991 September 16th Record High 96 F. beat 93 in 1915. September 17th Record High 95 f. beat 91 in 1972. September 18th SERIES OF TREMENDOUS THUNDERSTORMS Between 3:45pm untill just after midnight. No let up at all 6pm - 11:30pm One heavy storm after another that seemed to be stationary or redevelope over the same area. The storms were very intense with extremely vivid, dangerous, continuous and close cloud to ground lightning and buckets upon buckets of rain. I've never seen anything like it. Rainfall total at midnight was 4.98". and another .28" fell just after midnight. This was not a record one day rainfall total. This is the 3rd largest one day or 24 hr. total ever. The largest one day rain is 6.69" July 20th 1956 but that was more spread out over a wider time frame. The 2nd largest 5.30" fell in a 6 hr period June 19th 1928. Major Flooding across the city with a good bit of water damage reported. 1991 September The Last 11 months in a row have all been above Normal for average Temperature. This is the first month that was below normal(just slightly) since last September. This is the first time in history that anything like this has ever happend. 1991 November 29th Record High of 73 F. beat old record of 72 in 1927. The Year 1991 was the WARMEST EVER with an average temperature of 55.9 F. This beats the previous record of 55.5 in 1953. 1992 March This is the first month out of the last 19 that has been Below normal by more than 0.5 degree. Since September 1990 when the average temperature was 1.7 degrees below normal Every month but 2 have been Above normal and they were just 2 & 3 tenths of a degree below normal. Very Very Unusual. 1992 May 1st Record High 90 F.beats old record of 88 in 1954. 1992 was a Record Low year for weather records being set(Get It) Only 1 record set. 1993 January 4th 68 F. Ties record set in 1950. 1993 March 13th Record Breaking Late season BLIZZARD! Never before has this area or entire east coast from Alabama to Maine had Bizzard conditions this bad this late in season. This storm Dropped 20.0" of snow for 3rd largest ever, 2nd largest for March. It had wind gusts to 55 mph making Blizzard White-Out conditions. The temperature Hoverd around 20 F. The Lowest Barometric Pressure of all time was set all along east coast. Here is went to 28.64" for a New Low Barometer Reading. March 15th Record Low 0 F. old record 11 in 1940. This is only the 5th time it's been zero or lower in March. March 19th Record Low of 8 F. beat 9 set in 1967. 1993 April was the 2nd Wettest ever with 7.26" of rain. The record is 7.80" in 1952. January through April was the Wettest first 4 months ever with 18.49" of precipitation. beats the old record of 16.65" in 1984. 1993 May 11th 91 F. Ties record high set in 1979. 1993 June 19th 93 F. ties record high set 1957. July 8th High of 98 close to record of 99 in 1988. July 28th Record High of 101 F. old record 99 in 1941. Makes 12 in a row of 90+ degree days and breaks the record for June. The old record was 11 in a row set in 1966. This Make 13 for the month & ties the record for most 90 degree days in June set in 1943. 1994 June 26th High of 90 F. Breaks the Record for most 90 Degree days in June at 14. This was the 2nd Hottest June Ever with an average of 74.6 F. The record is 75.0 in 1943. This month broke the record for the most 90 degree days in the month of June at 15 beating the old record of 13 in 1943. Also the most 90 degree days in a row for June at 12 beat old rec of 11 in 1966. 1994 August 17th Very Heavy Downpours all day from the remains of tropical storm Beryl with a total of 4.56". This is the 4th largest daily rain ever. 2.00" fell in one hour 7pm -8pm. 1994 November 4th Record High of 82 F. beat 78 in 1977 November 5th Record High of 80 F. beat record of 78 in 1975. These last two record setting days were also the Highest temperatures ever so late in the year. November 6th High of 78 F. Tied record set in 1902. 1994 Was the 2nd Wettest Ever with 51.46" of Precipitation. The record wettest is 52.86" in 1975. 1995 January New Record for going so far into the winter with so little Snow. At the end of January only 0.9" of snow for this season and 0.7" of that fell in Novenber on the 23rd. This beats the old Record at the end of January in 1960 when the season total was 1.3". 1995 March 8th One of the Greatest one day Weather Turn Arounds ever! The weather Changed from a very warm High of 67 F.at noon the second warmest day of the winter to Blizzard conditions and the largest snowfall of the winter in less than 6 hours. Shortly after noon a strong arctic front plowed through with gusty Nw winds to 33 mph dropping the temp from 67F. to 47F. in 45 Minutes The Temp continued to fall all afternoon with a few rain showers and gusty winds. Steady rains began by 4:30pm which quickly turned to heavy sleet then to heavy snow. By 6pm it was 32 F. with 1.0" on the Ground and heavy snow with white-out conditions. Alot of thunder & lightning occured between 5pm & 7pm with bursts of heavy snow & White-outs. 3" by 7pm, 4.2" at 8pm, 5.8" at 9pm, 6.2"at 10pm and finally when it ended by 11pm the total was 6.7" There was almost continuous white-out conditions all evening with heavy snow and gusty winds to 30 mph. WOW!! What a Day! 1995 March 12 - 17 Another turn around Six days of beautiful warm spring weather with highs in the 70's with near 100% sunshine. 1995 May 24th Record High of 89 F. beats old record of 88 in 1991. 1995 July 15th Extreme Heat and Humidity. High of 100 F. not a record Record for the Highest combined heat & humidity. The Heat index was averaging 120 -125 all afternoon and peaked at 126. The Temp was averaging 98 F. The humidity was averagig 60% and the Dew Point was averaging 80 F. and peaked at 83 F. Never have I seen values this high. July was the 5th hottest in record. 1995 August Hottest on Record with an average of 78.3 F. beating the old record of 77.5 set in 1988 The Summer of 1995 was also the HOTTEST Ever with an average temp of 76.0 F. beats the old record of 75.9 just set in 1991. 1995 September 8th Long Dry spell ends for 2nd longest ever for No Measurable rain at 24 Days in a row. The longest ever is 26 Days in the summer of 1968. During the past 32 days ony .04" fell. 1996 January 6th - 8th SUPER SNOWSTORM BREAKS EVERY SNOWFALL RECORD KNOWN! Began 11pm on the 6th with 0.2" by midnight. Snowed all day on the 7th Storm gradually intensifies as day goes on with near blizzard conditions by evening with some white-outs at times with winds gusting fron the Nne to 37 mph. Snow depths on the 7th 7am 7", 10am 9", 12noon 11", 4pm 15", 9pm 23", Midnight 26". January 8th Heavy snow with blowing & drifting all night long. Snow finally ends by 8:30am another 9" fell since midnight with a Grand total from the 33 Hour storm of 34.9" This storm breaks the record for the most snow in a 24 hour period when 26 inches fell yesterday beating the old record of 25" set Feb 11th 1983. This storm breaks the all time storm total record. The 34.9" beats old record of 25" set Feb 11th 1983. This storm breaks the record for the most snow total on the ground either by a combination of several snows or one storm. The old record was 31" set Feb 8th 1961 from several snows. This storm also breaks the record the largest monthly accumulation ever and it came from just one storm. The old monthly snow total record was 33" in January 1925. WOW! 1996 January 12th More snow. Another 8.0" of snow fell between 3:30am & 5pm was moderate to heavy at times. This brought the snow total on the ground back up to 34" again. Unreal! January 19th A very quick meltdown of the snow along with warm temps and heavy rains produced severe flooding in the area the worst since November of 1985. January Was the Snowiest ever and for any month with a total of 42.9" beating the old record of 33" in 1925. January was also the Wettest on Record with 7.71" of precipitation beating the old record of 6.68" in 1979. 1996 February 25th Humidity of 8% Tied record low humidity reading set April 1st 1982. 1996 March 10th Low of 7 F. Tied the record low in 1941. 1996 April 12th High of 86 F. Ties record set in 1977. 1996 May 13th 30 F. Low near the record of 29 in 1941. May 14th Record Low of 30 F. Beats the old record of 31 in 1928. May 18 - 21 Instant Summer / Rapid Warm up / Record Heat May 18th After cold morning fog became very sunny & Hot with a High of 91 F. near the record of 93 in 1962. May 19th ALL TIME HIGH TEMPERATURE for MAY of 97 F. beats the old High for May set May 29th 1899. May 20th Record High Again of 97 F. beats record for date of 91 in 1964. May 21st Record High 92 F. beats old record of 90 in 1941. May was the 2nd Wettest ever with 7.83". The record is 8.09" in 1989. May also had 19 days with measureable rain and that is a recent record for most in any month. 1996 June 18th -19th TORRENTIAL RAINS/SEVERE LIGHTNING/SEVERE FLOODING June18th Torrential rains from slow moving and and severe thunderstorms this evening. Lightning and some rain began around 10pm but by 11pm the torrential rains began as storms developed overhead 1.93" fell by midnight also very sharp and almost continuious lightning. June19th Extremely heavy rains and severe lightning continued with another 2.00" inches by 12:35am, 4.00" fell in 1.5 hours. 2.00" fell in 35 minutes. Rains let up some at this point but still another 1.00" fell by 4:30am as heavy downpours continued off and on all night. So just about 5.00" inches fell overnight. The 4 inches that fell in the 95 minute period is the most I've seen in such a short period of time. These rains of course caused very serious flash flooding all over the city and county. I've never seen so much wide spread flooding over so many areas from thunderstorms. The farther north and east you went the heavier the rains were, some areas reported 7 to 11 inches. A few more showers during the morning brought the grand total up to 5.23" This was the 2nd wettest June on record with 10.83" of rain. The wettest ever was 11.57" in 1928. The First 6 months of 1996 was the Wettest Ever with 35.99". The old record was 29.69" in 1972. 1996 July Still on a unbelievable record setting pace for the wettest year ever. July had 9.70" for 3rd wettest. 1949 had 10.28". 45.69" for the year. The wettest year ever was 1975 with 52.86" and at the end of July in that year the total was only 30.01" WOW! The Summer of 1996 was of course the wettest summer on record with 24.80" of rain for the 3 months, this beats the old record of 21.35" in 1970. Normal is 10.48" 1996 September 6th Remains of Hurricne fran has broken our All Time Yearly Rainfall Record of 52.86" set in 1975 We are now at 54.75" September was the Wettest on record with 10.54" of rain beating the old record of 10.09" in 1975. 1996 October 30th Record High of 81 F. beats the old record of 79 in 1945. 1996 WETTEST YEAR IN HISTORY with an unbelievable Rainfall Total of 76.66" That drowned the old reccord by 2 feet which was 52.86" in 1975. That breaks the record for this date of 74 in 1982. 1998 December 6th RECORD HIGH of 77 F. Shatterd the old record of 69 on 1982. 1998 December 7th RECORD HIGH of 74 F. Beat the old record of 73 in 1953. This is 7 days in a row of 60 degrees or higher for December and that breaks the old record 5 in a row in 1982. We have had 10 in a row since November 28th and that is a record. This is also a record for the most 70 degree days in a row in December. Today makes 5 in a row. The old record was 2 in a row in 1982 & 1984. The Temperature has hit 60 degrees or higher 13 times since November 23rd and 9 of those have been 70 F. or Higher. There has not been a prolonged warm spell at this time of year that has even come close to this in the last 100 years. 1998 December 21st RECORD HIGH of 61 F. beat the old record of 60 in 1957. 1998 In contrast to the wettest first 4 months ever we have now set a record for the driest last 4 months on record. September through December saw only 4.01" of precipitation and that breaks the old record of 5.79" in 1925. Normal precip in that period is 12.39". 1998 The WARMEST YEAR on RECORD with an average temperature of 56.8 F. Shattering the old record of 55.9 in 1991 1999 February 12th RECORD HIGH of 72 F.
