Strong thunderstorm 6:45pm to 7:30pm brief heavy rains .51" and winds up to 34 mph. 3rd- Light shower 7:30am - 8am .03. 8th- Showers and some thunder 4:30am - 6am .05" fell. Light shower around 9:30am .01". Thunderstorms with some heavy downpours between 5pm and 7:30pm .71" fell in very short time about 30 mins. A few more light evening showers. .82" for day. 12th- Few light sprinkles late this evening, trace. HURRICANE BERTHA GIVES AREA JUST A BRUSHING 13th- Rain overnight and some breezy conditions as the remains of hurricane Bertha passes to our east. Rain was mostly light all night ended bt 9:30am .64" fell, the winds only gusted to 25 mph. Some clearing by mid morning with tropical looking skies and the winds picked up a little more from the NNW with gusts to 27 mph. 14th- Hot and humid today some storms pass to our south around 6pm with some thunder and .01" of rain. Storms build just to our SE and produce a vivid lightning display this evening but no rain. 15th- Warm and humid with showers today mainly between 10am and 3pm. Heavy downpours and some thunder at 5pm. .40" fell today. 18th- Rain showers today 10am - 6pm .67" fell. HEAVY RAINS, SEVERE WEATHER, TORNADOS OVER A WIDE AREA 19th- Some light rain overnight .13". Thunderstorms with heavy downpours 7:30am - 10am another 1.70" fell. Severe thunder- storms move through county 2:45pm - 3:10pm. Hagerstown escapes severe weather with just some heavy rains another .72" fell 2.55" for the day. Wind gusts only to 31 mph. But areas very close reported high winds and damage. Tornado warnings were out for much of this area. Tornados and wind damage were reported just to north and east of here and tornados reported in southern Washington county with heavy damage. 20th- A very pleasant summer day with low humiditys. 22nd- Cool with rain all day since 9am some heavy downpours this morning became a light rain to a heavy drizzle this afternoon. Drizzle continued this evening. Total rain today .92" 23rd- Some drizzle just after midnight and some fog. 25th- A very light rain shower around 10pm .01". 26th- A light rain shower overnight around 1:30am .01". 29th- Rain and showers 3:30am till noon. Rain began again just before midnight toatl today .30". 30th- Thunderstorms and heavy downpours midnight - 6am 1.81" fell very heavy around 5:30am. Thunderstorms 7:50pm - midnight another .30" fell 2.15" for day. 31st- More rain and some thunder 5am noon .68" fell Still on a unbelievable record setting pace for the wettest year ever. July had 9.70" for 3rd wettest. 1949 had 10.28". 45.69" for the year. The wettest year ever was 1975 with 52.86" and at the end of July in that year the total was only 30.01" WOW!
